All we’ve been hearing over the last few weeks is “Help! My PC/laptop has automatically updated to Windows 10”. Never has a free download been so unpopular since Apple decided to force U2’s new album on to your iTunes account a few years back.
The latest cry for help was down to Microsoft pulling a fast one on users last month when they changed the function of the usually reliable “red x”. Instead of normally closing a window when clicking on the red x people were clicking the button and finding out when they next turned on their machine they had magically downloaded and installed Windows 10. This was a step too far for people after being bombarded by requests to install the software for nearly a year. If people had avoided the update for this long why would they want to update now? A businesswoman in Canada went as far as to sue Microsoft for $10,000. Amazingly, she won her case.
However, things aren’t all doom and gloom with Windows 10. The main problem being experienced is when the software is being run on older machines. The computers simply can’t cope with the operating software. When being operated on capable computers the software is actually rather good. A vast improvement on the much maligned Windows 8. Here we will explain reasons why you should in fact upgrade to Windows 10.
More Familiar
There is a more familiar feel to Windows 10 unlike Windows 8. The software is easier to follow and there are a lot of handy hints to help users further.
Works on PC and Tablet
A big problem with Windows 8 is that it was built to be used on a touchscreen device which left a lot of PC users confused. Windows 10 has a feature called Continuum and this can tell whether you are using a desktop PC or a tablet. This allows the interface to be changed to suit the device you are using.
Cortana
People may already be accustomed with Windows’ virtual assistant, Cortana, if they have used a Windows phone. It has now made its way to the desktop in this new software. Like the phone version you can use your voice to control certain elements of your computer. So, people will be shouting at their PC’s but now for all the right reasons.
No Microsoft Account Required
Unlike Windows 8 you don’t require a Microsoft Account to install the new software. You can use any email address you want for set up. Though if you do want to use certain features you will require a Microsoft Account.
IT’S FREE!!!
The main reason to upgrade to Windows 10 is the fact that it is free. Operating software that normally starts at £70 is being given to people for absolutely nothing. But you better hurry as it is only available at zero cost until 29th July 2016.
However, It’s Not For Everyone
As explained earlier the main problems being experienced with Windows 10 revolve around the software being run on older computers that just can’t handle the upgrade. Older versions of Microsoft Office are also incompatible with the new operating system. It might be worth speaking with your IT Support provider before proceeding with any upgrade.
Overall
In conclusion Windows 10 is a very good upgrade from Windows 8. It is easier for users to navigate and has that familiar feel of Windows 7. It works just as well on tablets as it does on PCs so everyone should be much happier when using it across several devices.
