Don’t Let Poor Support Hold Your Business Back

When we’re speaking to prospective clients sometimes one of the reasons they ask for a meeting with us is that they are unhappy with their current IT Support provider. Poor IT Support can really slow down your business’ productivity. When you have a problem you need to know it will be resolved as quickly as possible.

Some companies just put up with this poor service though as they see it has more of a hassle to move their service across to a new provider. It can actually be a very straightforward migration if your new provider knows what they are doing. Here are some aspects to consider when switching your IT Support provider.

What Services They Provide

Before you move you need to make sure you know what it is your old supplier provides. If you forget about one service then it could cause bigger disruption than is necessary. For example, if your old supplier handles both your web and email hosting then it would be handy to keep these two services together. To migrate your email service you need regular access to your web hosting facility. If you fail to migrate one without the other then your emails could stop working which would cause major disruption to your business.

Contract Status

Make sure you know the period you have left on any contracts you have with your current supplier. This may be general support contracts or telecoms contracts. The t&C’s might state a fee is payable for any early exits.

Account Logins

It’s always a good idea to have up to date copies of all of your passwords and login details. They are yours after all. These could be anything from PC user accounts right up to Router login details. This just means it is less of a strain when trying to move to a new supplier.

References From New Supplier

Ask for references from your new supplier. Moving IT Services can be a big job so you need to know your new provider knows what they are doing. You can get these from a number of their current clients.

Be Honest

It helps to be honest with your current provider when migrating your IT Services. At the end of the day they should know when you’re not happy and an unhappy client will just give them more hassle. Doing this will also make the migration more comfortable for your new supplier as they won’t be “cold calling” the current provider for information. Everyone will be on the same page.
